Annual Events

Funds raised from these special events go toward an annual project selected by the Foundation Board each year.

Party with a Purpose

Every March, the Helen Keller Foundation hosts a ladies luncheon complete with a grand shopping experience and spring fashion show.

Annual Dinner & Silent Auction

The Annual Dinner focuses on honoring a well deserving community leader, who has shown dedication and commitment in giving back to Helen Keller Hospital and the community as a whole. The dinner features a silent auction and entertainment.

Ed Borden | Steve Nesbitt Memorial Golf Tournament

This annual golf tournament is held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail of the Shoals. Ed and Steve were instrumental in the creation of the tournament and their leadership as Foundation board members continue to show by the number of golfers who participate each year. The tournament is held in October. Breakfast begins at 7:00 a.m. and the shotgun start happens at 8:00 a.m.

Profiles in Pink Party

Every October, Profiles in Pink is held to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. Each event features local entertainment and recognizes breast cancer survivors in our community.

Ways to Give

The Helen Keller Hospital Foundation provides opportunities for you to give and show you care by a special remembrance. You may designate your gift to be used for a specific purpose, department or in honor or memorial. All gifts are tax deductible.

A Star is Born

The Helen Keller Hospital Foundation offers a unique way to celebrate our Kellerbabies. This program allows families to purchase a brass star for $100. The stars are engraved with the name and birthdate of the child and displayed inside the Women’s Center at Helen Keller Hospital. This purchase is tax-deductible and the proceeds of all stars help the Foundation provide equipment and services for the hospital. Stars may be purchased to recognize anyone born at Helen Keller Hospital or Colbert County Hospital. For more information, call (256) 386-4747.

More than 750 babies are born at Helen Keller Hospital each year

Foundation Project for 2023

It takes a TEAM!

Our Foundation Project for 2023 will focus on our Women's Services. Our goal is to provide additional services and equipment to increase the level of care available to all our patients of the Shoals. You can be a part of this effort by giving! The Helen Keller Hospital Foundation is a 501(c) (3) corporation which allows the community to support healthcare through tax deductible contributions that are used right here at home through the expansion of services and facilities at Helen Keller Hospital.

Kanuru Hospitality House

The Kanuru Hospitality House

The Kanuru Hospitality House provides overnight lodging for family members who travel a long distance to be with a patient. The Kanuru Hospitality House was a project of the Helen Keller Hospital Foundation, through a generous donation from Dr. das Kanuru. Each unit of the duplex has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living area, kitchen, and laundry room. It is conveniently located on the Keller campus and is a short walk to the hospital.

Qualifications for lodging: Guests must live at least 50 miles from Helen Keller Hospital. Guests must have a family member who is currently a patient at the hospital. Referrals are made by social workers, nursing unit supervisors, or nurse supervisors. Guest referrals are considered in the order in which they are received. Check in time is 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. Keys are available for pickup at the HKH Emergency Department. Checkout is 1 p.m. or the time of the patient’s discharge. A maximum of 5 days is allowed. Upon checkout, keys must be returned to the Emergency Department. A $10 refundable key deposit is required at check in. There is a $20 per day charge to use the Kanuru house. Guests must present a valid driver’s license and credit/debit card at the time of check in. For more information about the Kanuru Hospitality House, please call (256) 386-4590.

Foundation

The Helen Keller Hospital Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization established in 2000 to allow the hospital to provide the most advanced health care possible to Northwest Alabama. Thanks to your generous support, the foundation has given over $2 million toward various renovations, expansions and new equipment for Helen Keller Hospital.

All gifts to the Foundation are tax-deductible and cumulative. Donations are accepted in the forms of cash, appreciated securities, real estate, and memorial or tribute gifts. Donations may be unrestricted or directed to a specific purpose at the hospital. We will notify the honoree or family in case of a memorial gift.
